Friendship Force members and staff join forces to kick off a new Volunteer Task Force

On May 28th 2024, eight nervous and excited FFI members from the US, Canada, Hungary, Liberia, and Turkey gathered together on Zoom for their first kick-off meeting for the volunteer task force. This team came together over the shared goal of improving the organization while also learning how to use online remote work tools to collaborate with members spread across the world in different countries and timezones.

Most team members labeled themselves “not very tech-savvy,” and mentioned the idea of contributing to FFI projects while learning more about technology was both exciting and intimidating. However, they all ultimately decided to join because they wanted to keep up with new tools and technologies for travel planning and project management, and also help FFI make positive changes to the organization.

Highs and Lows: Though the group was nervous about their tech skills at first, everyone soon realized we were all in the same boat learning from each other and we started to see real progress as a group. We’ve been working for 6 months now, and let me tell you we’ve come a long way! Not only has the team created a new member orientation packet and email campaign (yes, we’ll be sharing it soon), but we’ve also learned how to use various apps for collaboration, and how to manage project assignment hand–offs between team members in constant rotation due to travel.

How can you join? Does learning to work on a remote team sound exciting? Do you have 2-5 hours per week to volunteer for approximately 2-3 months on helping us tackle some projects? Are you open and curious about tech to simplify travel planning and project management? Then please apply!  If selected for a team, you will receive training on some common remote work tools like Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail and Zoom so you, too, can offer your advice, support and expertise on important FFI projects and improve your ability to communicate across the globe!
