As I reflect on the February meeting of the FFI Board of Directors, two words come to mind: hopeful and determined. The Board is committed to embracing the future while staying true to our founding vision—a worldwide movement of inspired people building bridges for a more friendly world. In the spirit of FFI founder Wayne Smith and the Carters, we remain unwavering in our mission to promote peace and understanding across the barriers that divide us.
To move forward and branch out in today’s world, the Board has identified three key pillars that will shape our path:
- Strengthening intercultural connection and friendship through journeys and events.
- Education and training to cultivate better global citizens.
- Engaging community and organizational partnerships and projects to extend our reach.
FFI has always been more than just travel—it’s a movement. To grow and thrive, we must continue evolving, teaching what it means to be a global citizen, and forging new partnerships. Our collaboration with organizations like the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures, Sister Cities, and the Welcoming Cities movement demonstrates the power of these alliances in fostering a more connected world.
A perfect example of FFI’s commitment to education is Caid Law, FFI’s Communications Assistant, and a student of Dr. Michael English, a fellow board member and Director of the University of Colorado’s Peace, Conflict, and Security Institute. Caid presented a workshop Be a Better Global Citizen at FFI’s North American Conference last October, reinforcing the importance of developing intercultural skills and fostering global understanding.

Our message of neighborliness—of turning strangers into friends—has never been more relevant
In times like these, the world needs the positivity and civility that Friendship Force International represents. Our message of neighborliness—of turning strangers into friends—has never been more relevant. This is our opportunity to talk, plan, and act. Let’s engage in conversations within our clubs about innovative ways to branch out—through events, projects, and new partnerships—to keep our movement growing.
Together, we can ensure that Friendship Force International continues to make a meaningful impact for years to come. Let’s move forward with purpose and branch out with confidence.
