Spend four days cycling across the Ruhr region of Germany, one of the largest conurbations in Europe. Despite its large population, there are great woodlands, nature reserves, river valleys, channels, and water expanses that make popular excursion destinations. Bond with your new friends while you bike between destinations on this Journey for fit ambassadors!

Know before you go

  • Journey Number 14263
  • Be prepared to share a double room in the hotels.
  • Must be a good cyclist, distance to cycle every day is 50-70 km. You will start in the morning after breakfast, with possible detours from main route to points of interest or for lunch. Arrival in hotel at 6 pm.
  • Fun Fact: Pharmacies, hotels, and beer brands in the region carry the phrase “Glück auf” ("good luck") in their names. “Glück auf, der Steiger kommt” ("Good luck, here comes the foreman") was the miners’ greeting for their pit foreman. Today, 20,000 people still work in the mines of the Ruhr region. However, 2018 will be the year in which the mineworkers will “knock off” for the last time as the mines will close entirely at some point this year.
